Applications of Complex-Logarithmic Conformal Mapping in Still Image Coding

چکیده
This paper evaluates the performance of an image compression system based upon the complex logarithmic conformal mapping. A staple in the robotics and visual systems fields, our attempts were to investigate the application of this algorithm in the field of image compression. The characteristics predisposed to the log sensor include a foveal region centered around the focal point which generates a high level of image reconstruction. In the extrafoveal region, we see a tapering off in resolution capacity as we approach the periphery of the sensor. This natural form of compression found in the human visual system is augmented by a spatial scaling constant a which, in addition to displacing the logarithmic singularity at the origin, directly regulates the size of the aforementioned foveal region. Two other characteristics govern our log mapping: the circumferential index κ and the visual field radius R. Comparisons between this space-variant sensor and a uniform resolution sensor yield further insight into the application of the log mapping.

Computational anatomy and functional architecture of striate cortex: a spatial mapping approach to perceptual coding.
The spatial inhomogeneity of the retino-striate syslem is summarized by the vector cortical magnification factor. The logarithm of retinal eccentricity provides a good fit to the integrated cortical magnification factor. Under the assumption that the cortical map is analytic (conformal), this implies that a complex logarithmic function of retinal coordinates describes the two-dimensional struct...
متن کاملConformal mappings preserving the Einstein tensor of Weyl manifolds
In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a conformal mapping between two Weyl manifolds to preserve Einstein tensor. Then we prove that some basic curvature tensors of $W_n$ are preserved by such a conformal mapping if and only if the covector field of the mapping is locally a gradient. Also, we obtained the relation between the scalar curvatures of the Weyl manifolds r...

متن کاملSimulation of Ideal External and Internal Flows with Arbitrary Boundaries Using Schwarz Christoffel Transformation
The flow field, velocity and pressure coefficient distribution of some 2-D ideal flows are presented. Conformal mapping is used to simulate two-dimensional ideal flow for a variety of complex internal and external configurations, based on the numerical integration of Schwarz-Christoffel transformation. The advantages of this method are simplicity and high accuracy. The method presented in this ...
متن کاملFace Recognition using an Affine Sparse Coding approach
Sparse coding is an unsupervised method which learns a set of over-complete bases to represent data such as image and video. Sparse coding has increasing attraction for image classification applications in recent years. But in the cases where we have some similar images from different classes, such as face recognition applications, different images may be classified into the same class, and hen...
